STILL ON FEMALE DEPUTIES AND FIRSTS IN NIGERIA: DR. IPALIBO BANIGO OF RIVERS STATE (EX. Q.C.)

When one thinks of Rivers State these days, Governor N. Wike comes to mind. And one can not help but wonder who deputizes for him.

A brilliant woman. A strong woman. She is the sixth deputy governor of Rivers State. The first ever female deputy governor of same. She was sworn in with governor N.Wike in May 2015.

An alumnus of one of the foremost girls’ schools; Queen’s College Yaba, Lagos in Nigeria, West Africa. An alumnus of University of Ibadan school of Medicine also in Nigeria in 1976. An alumnus of Harvard University with a Masters degree in Public Health and the University of London where she earned a post graduate degree in Tropical Hygiene in 1990. A diploma in Dermatology also from the University of London in 1992.

She was the Senior Medical Officer in Charge Port Harcourt Health Services Rivers State from 1981-1984 when she was barely thirty years old. She was SSG of the previous governor before the current governor picked her as his running mate.

She has spent her tenure promoting the sciences, education and health care in Rivers State. She is rated as one of the beautiful deputy governors of this democratic dispensation.
