On the last Sunday of November 2022, an excited audience was gathered at the Accra International Conference Centre, Accra in Ghana. It was the Golden Stool Pageant. A traditional pageant held annually in Ghana to promote their culture and tradition. It was a sad outcome to the beautiful event.

Obroni was first runner-up. She had received her cheque. But collapsed holding it. Many concluded she collapsed out of disappointment. She said in a later interview that she was hungry.

Two points here. Ensure your contestants are well fed and hydrated. Secondly stop everything and get the medics to the contestants. Organisers can have a few medics at the event.

At this particular event, when the woman collapsed, the MC continued as if nothing had happened. Courtesy demanded he paused for a minute so that the woman will get the attention needed.

Is life so cheap in West Africa? Have we lost all our humanity? What if she had died at that moment?
