Let us take time out to look closely at walking the runway and walking the pageant. They are subtly different.

A pageant walk is made up of posture, steps, facial expressions and what we would like to call vibes. You are not just modelling yourself, you are selling your country if you like. Portraying your people or whoever you represent on that stage must be seen in a positive light.

Meanwhile a runway walk is mainly about steps and postures. You are modelling an outfit on the runway. Your facial expressions are not crucial. It is the beauty and comfort of the outfit, you are portraying to the buyer.

During a pageant walk and a catwalk, you keep your back straight. However, in a pageant, you chest out a little and still manage to keep a straight back.

Finally for today, you sway your hips when you do a pageant walk. This action makes your walk on the stage more interesting. Drawing attention to you. During a catwalk, you DO NOT SWAY. You have to remember to be fluid but straight so that you do not distract the audience from the items for purchase.
