In 2021, young Shequeena McKenzie made history. Our celebrant became the first African -American woman to be a judge in McComb. And she got this appointment when she was only twenty-eight years old.
Ms. McKenzie is a native of McComb in Mississippi. Her first degree was a major in Political Science and a minor in Human Rights. She was not done yet. She obtained a doctorate in Law when she was twenty-six years old.
At a time after Shequeena McKenzie completed Law School, she moved to Jackson where she worked as a part-time lawyer. Barely three years after working in Jackson, she was appointed a judge.
Judge Shequeena was inspired by Kamala Harris. She is the first African woman to become Vice-President of the United States of America. Our young judge said that if Kamala could reach that position, she too could excel in her chosen career.
Again, Shequeena McKenzie is the change she desires to see in the justice system. And so the young judge works hard at giving fair judgement.
Finally, Shequeena McKenzie reaches out to and guides young girls to believe in themselves. Because the girls relate with her up close, they have the best results.
